We are pleased to be a recipient of funding through the prestigious PNC Arts Alive Initiative in 2015!  Al-Bustan joins a group of just twenty-two Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey organizations selected this year for bold thinking around increasing arts access and engagement.  We are thrilled to be in the company of such organizations.

Al-Bustan’s  Arab Meets Classical Music Series: Bring Your Own Drum! program will be presented in Spring 2016 and feature innovative repertoire drawing from both Arab and Western Classical genres. The Series will include pre-concert workshops where the audience is invited to #BYOD (Bring Your Own Drum) to learn more about Arab and Western Classical rhythms with expert teaching artists!

Featuring Al-Bustan Takht Ensemble and Prometheus Chamber Orchestra (our collaborators on Marcel Khalife’s Chants of the East in Nov 2014), the concert will be presented at three venues in different Philadelphia neighborhoods in the Spring of 2016. Each concert program features interactive portions where the audience is invited to play along on their own drums!

PNC Arts Alive is a multi-year, multi-million dollar initiative of the PNC Foundation, which receives its principal funding from The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc.  The goal of PNC Arts Alive is to help area residents gain access to the arts and to help arts organizations expand and engage audiences.

Paula Fryland, PNC regional president for Philadelphia-Southern New Jersey remarks,

Through PNC Arts Alive, we continue to help invigorate local arts organizations while bringing new and exciting programs to our community. The creativity and collaboration demonstrated by the local arts community is evident in the programs that will be introduced, while enabling new visitors and residents alike to experience a diverse range of exhibits and performances.
