Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture is delighted to announce that we are presenting the North American premiere of the film Memory Box directed by Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige (directors of Lebanese Rocket Society, Je Veux Voir) in collaboration with the Middle East Center and Penn Cinema and Media Studies (CIMS). Nominated for the Golden Bear Prize for best film at Berlinale in March 2021, Memory Box depicts the story of a mother and daughter in Montreal who receive an unexpected delivery: notebooks, tapes, and photos from 1980s Beirut, Lebanon. While the mother refuses to open the box, her daughter dives into the memories of her mother’s adolescence.
On March 25th at 6:00 PM Al-Bustan is presenting the premiere of the film Memory Box at the Rainey Auditorium on the University of Pennsylvania’s campus in collaboration with the Middle East Center and UPenn Cinema and Media Studies. We are grateful for the support of William Penn Foundation in making this US movie premiere possible. The premiere is to be preceded by a short reception in the lobby of Rainy Auditorium at 5:15 PM.
