Al-Bustan and Friends Select School are pleased to offer a new three-week intensive Arabic program for teenagers. The program includes four hours of Arabic reading, speaking, writing, and listening, integrated with two hours of arts instruction in visual art, singing, and drumming. The curriculum, utilizing a national standards-based Arabic curriculum for high school students, will closely integrate arts instruction with language learning and enable students to have a variety of experiences to deepen their engagement in the language and culture.
JUNE 29 – JULY 17, 2015, 9am – 3pm, Monday – Friday, with optional weekend activities
FEE
$600 per student – Full payment by June 1, and $300 due with application submission.
Limited scholarships, based on financial need, are available. Download and submit a Scholarship application by May 15.
Friend Discount – refer a friend and both students receive 10% off tuition. Both students must register by May 1, 2015.

FACULTY
Arabic language instructor Brahim El Gabli who for six years was a lecturer in Arabic language at Swarthmore College and taught at Al-Bustan Camp, will lead the development of the curriculum and teach the intermediate group of students. Farnaz Perry, an experienced teacher of Arabic language currently at Bryn Mawr College, will teach the beginner group of students. The afternoon arts classes will be taught by master musicians Hanna Khoury (choir/violin), Hafez Kotain, (percussion), and the art teacher will be announced shortly.
SCHEDULE
The program is held Monday – Friday from June 29 to July 27. July 3 is off. Classes begin at 9:00am and end at 3:00pm.
Weekend activities (optional) will be held on Sunday July 5 and Saturday July 11
The schedule includes 4 hours of language instruction daily, followed by Arabic choir for all participants, with the day ending in either percussion or visual art class. Weekend activities with field trips “Exploring Philadelphia through an Arabic Lens” will be additional ways that students can extend their learning experience. On the last day of the program, students will exhibit their artwork and present a short performance of singing and drumming with Al-Bustan Takht Ensemble.
